Clouds: A Memoir

Disclosure: This is a TLC Book Tour and I received a copy of Clouds for review purposes only. Any opinions are my own.

Grab a box of tissues and a copy of Clouds: A Memoir for a connection like no other, you will laugh and cry all at the same time while feeling hopeful instead of sadness. Clouds is a true and inspiring story about teenage songwriter Zach Sobiech who rose to fame as a musician before passing away from bone cancer. When he finds out the cancer he has been fighting for years is terminal, he writes several songs as a way to say goodbye to his family and friends.

The book, written by Zach's mother is so beautiful, so open and honest. It is an amazing story about an amazing family, going through the unthinkable. It's no wonder Zach was such a magical young man surrounded by such a family! Zach was so inspiring to many, so couragious, after only being diagnosed less than 3 years before his death.

Zach rose to the challenge and dared to live while battling a painful cancer. He wrote a beautiful song called “Clouds” that still touches many hearts today, many years later! During the week of Zach’s death, May 20, 2013 the song reached #1 on iTunes and topped the Rock Digital Downloads at #1.

Visit youtube to hear this beautiful song. I can't stop singing it and playing it! It will get stuck in your head, too!
“You don't have to find out you're dying to start living.” ― Zach Sobiech
Also, on October 16th, this beautiful story will be available to watch on Disney+. Directed by Justin Baldoni, the film will chronicle Zach’s senior year of high school and the last year of his life.
“I’m not a musician; I’m just a filmmaker, and my prayer is that you get an opportunity—both through the reading of this beautiful book and the watching of our film based on it—to experience what I will fail to put into words: the magic and inspiration of Zachary David Sobiech.”

—Justin Baldoni, filmmaker and director of Clouds

Fly a Little Higher
Originally published as Fly a Little Higher and now updated and revised to coincide with the film release of Clouds, Laura Sobiech tells the amazing, true story behind the song and the movie.

“Okay, Lord, you can have him. But if he must die, I want it to be for something big. I want someone’s life to be changed forever.” This is what Laura Sobeich prayed when she found out her seventeen-year-old son had only one year to live. With this desperate prayer, she released her son to God’s will.

At that point, Zach Sobiech was just another teenager battling cancer. When his mother told him to think about writing goodbye letters to family and friends, he decided instead to write songs. One of them, “Clouds,” captured hearts and changed lives, making him an international sensation.

This story is a testament to what can happen when you live as if each day might be your last. It’s a story about the human spirit. It shows how God used a dying boy from a small town in Minnesota to touch the hearts of millions—including top executives in the entertainment industry, major music artists, news anchors, talk show hosts, actors, priests and pastors, and schoolchildren across the globe. And above all, it’s an example of the amazing things that happen when someone shares the most precious thing he has—himself.
