Book Club: Mistress of My Fate by Hallie RubenholdApril 10, 2013 Mistress of My Fate is the first book in a trilogy about Henrietta Lightfoot, a young woman, who was abandoned as a young child and raised alongside her privileged cousins, who she adores. When at the tender age of seventeen, sadness and circumstance make her depart this lifestyle abruptly to start anew and to fend for herself for the first time on the streets of 18th century London. This first person story telling made me believe I was reading a long lost letter from a dear old friend, that I could not put down till I had heard all about her happenings. I could not finish it soon enough. This is my first introduction to Hallie Rubenhold and historical romance. I thought her words were very well spoken, almost poetic in its old English tongue, where even an insult can sound polite and beautiful. The author: Hallie Rubenhold is an historian and has written two books of non-fiction to critical acclaim prior to Mistress of My Fate. So dear readers, if you are in the mood for an exciting adventure into the life and confessions of Henrietta Lightfoot. Pick up Mistress of My Fate and although the ending is no where as good as the beginning, you will not be able to put this page turner down till you are done!
