Review: Hello Fresh - Food Subscription Box

December 26, 2013

Hello Fresh

Disclaimer: I received a box for review purposes only. All opinions are 100% mine.

Do you like food shopping? I know some people do, I am not one of them. I just always seem to be food shopping, so what a treat it was to receive a well packed goodie box filled with fresh meat and produce and well planned recipe cards for three delicious meals to try from Hello Fresh.

Hello Fresh is a new subscription box that delivers weekly meals right to your door. Hello Fresh does all the leg work for us: They have top chefs prepare the menu/recipes, they collect all the food needed, then, they have those delicious products shipped right to our front door in individual meal packages, enough for three meals for two people.

Their easy to navigate website made it easy to begin. First, I made sure they deliver to our area by providing my zip code, then one can either add the classic box or vegetarian box to their cart for that week. (You do have the option to swap a meal once you submit your order by going into your account.) Then sit back and anxiously await the well packed box that would easily stay cool in the warmest of temps. (not such a problem this time of year.)

THE MENU:

Classic Beef Stew:

Hello Fresh

This classic dish was quite a surprise for me with ingredients including chickpeas that have never made it into my stew before. What it incorporated was a delicious stock stew that was delightfully light and finished with fresh cilantro and lemon!

Please note beef and chick peas provided were accidentally not pictured.

Best Part: This would also make a fantastic vegetarian stew.

Sauteed Chicken with Ginger Parsnips and Carrots:

Hello Fresh

A simple and delicious sauteed chicken dish warmed with ginger and thyme and finished with toasted almonds!

Best Part: The crisp addition of lightly toasted almonds.

Warm Eggplant Layered Salad:

Hello Fresh

A combination of new potatoes and eggplant sauteed then topped with a delicious salad of cucumber, cherry tomatoes, parsley, lemon juice and oil. Paired with a simple dressing of plain yogurt with garlic, oil and salt!

Best Part: The tasty side salad of cucumber and tomato that held up well overnight.

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT HELLO FRESH:

-Fantastic fresh food delivered right to our door
-Recipes included that we can use over and over
-Brilliantly organized bags of everything needed for a meal to feed at least two people
-We enjoyed trying new ingredients and different recipes
-Introduces products that might not be available at your local supermarket or would normally use
-Offers a classic box and a vegetarian box
-I enjoyed the chopping and that I still made a home cooked meal, yet it was so easy and simple to do.

Weekly subscriptions run $69 for two people ($129 for four) - While it may seem a little pricey, compared to going out to eat, it is a steal and I think a great way to spend on groceries and such a treat any week!
For working parents, this would be ideal and a much better option to take-out food, or fast food. It is really ideal for anyone looking to have good quality food delivered fresh to make for themselves.! We love it and I would love to treat myself to this box a lot more!
