Disclaimer: I received this book for review purposes only. No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.

We all have our distractions in the home; whether it be a book, the computer, or watching TV, not to mention cooking, cleaning and laundry. It is no wonder children see nothing wrong with playing their electronic games and enjoying screen time all day, it's fun for them. Learning to balance all kinds of play time is key, and encouraging more conversations with our children teaches them best. I really enjoyed many points in this book and think it a good read for all parents.

About the book:

"In this digital age, children are spending more and more time interacting with a screen rather than a parent. Technology has the potential to add value to our families, but it can also erode a sense of togetherness and hinder a child's emotional growth. In Growing Up Social: Raising Relational Kids in a Screen-Driven World, you'll learn how to take back your home from an over-dependence on screens. Discover the five A+ skills needed to give your child the relational edge in a screen-driven world: affection, appreciation, anger management, apology, and attention."

"No phone, tablet, or gaming device can teach your child how to have healthy relationships; only you can."

Growing Up Social will help you:

*Equip your child to be relational rich in a digital world
*Replace mindless screen time with meaningful family time
*Establish simple boundaries that make a huge difference
*Read what's working for the screen savvy family down the street
*Prepare your child to succeed down the road in relationships and life
*Learn healthy ways to occupy your child while you get things done

My Thoughts:

A good read for all parents of children who love technology. It offers simple guidelines to help teach the importance of the balance of screen time. Nothing beats a live conversation with your children and by socializing more, we teach our children how to do it as well. This book is an eye opening read that made some good points that I can most definitely work into my daily life for both myself and my children.

It is not telling us to remove the technology, just to find a good balance - and nothing beats play time with your child. Unplug more and enjoy your children. They learn most by watching us.
